Samsung D880 DuoS Dual SIM card phone

Mobile phones that can carry and work with two SIM cards in nothing new really. We’ve seen quite a few such models, but usually made by little known manufacturers and mainly in Asia.

Well, it looks like Samsung is planing to bring dual SIM card mobile phones into mainstream in Europe with their Samsung DuoS D880 phone.

Samsung D880 DuoS slider can work with two SIM cards from different operators or support two phone numbers from the same operator.

Both cards in Samsung SGH-D880 can work simultaneously to make and receive calls, send/receive SMS messages. The user also can easily select which card to use for mobile browsing, e-mail and other multimedia services. Your WAP/MMS/E-mail profiles are switched automatically when different card is selected.

When you receive the call, the name of the card that for the call flashes on screen and each SIM card can be assigned it’s own ringtone. In case of missed calls, the relevant card is also indicated.

Except for the dual SIM cards, Samsung DuoS D880 is your ordinary 2.5G Samsung slider with:

The only thing not to like, is the price - Samsung D880 DuoS is expected to cost around $700. But when you consider that you won’t have to carry two different phones in your pocket, the price tag doesn’t look so bad anymore.

Samsung DuoS is expected to go on sale in November.

Great product! But still, I’d rather spend €15,- on a MagicSim from http://www.dual-sim.eu =]

    Great product!

I hope Nokia, Apple, and SE follows suit too!

In the Philippines, almost everyone has a 2nd and third phone. It’ll sell there.

got this phone recently, came from using a sony phone so normal brand switching difficulties were present.

    —SIM SWITCHING—-
at first it seemed like the phone could only do sim switching by rebooting– but not really. it CAN make CALLS and SMS (not multimedia) and nothing else without the need to reboot. and that’s really all the features i’d want on a dual sim phone. 1 unit, 2 lines.

there’s a little button on the left side to switch from sim to sim on the contacts menu. only the manual it came with was useless, so tht feature’s kind of easy to miss.

    —NO FLASH—
for camera lovers. for all the mega pixels this phone boasts, there is no flash. not that it makes any difference really with camera phones. the highest MPs still look like crap to me.

—NO AUTO SAVE OF SENT MESSAGES (maybe)—
after all that learning to love the phone, i cannot figure out for the life of me, how to save sent SMS automatically. other samsung phones can do it (at least the phones can save sent sms when you
reply to a message, not when you start it from scratch) why not this?

if i’m clueless about this and someone knows a fix, please let me know.

    —NOKIA:WINDOWS as to SONY & SAMSUNG:MAC—
save and send options (which the d880 has, add extra steps— so minus points for this phone. even as Nokias are super user friendly when texting and making calls, they are so ugly and microsoft windows looking and behaving (crash crash crash) , i’d never go back to that brand. i hate windows. i love macs. so i’m sticking with the samsung. for now anyway. when sony decides to make a dual sim phone, then i’ll probably switch back. sony has all those cute smiley things on SMS after all…

  12. i would suggest you guys from samsung to make your product stand out above all with a better battery life and a good receiving transmission. most mobile phone i would say all are a flop when it comes to transmission and battery life time..i may be rude but i speak the truth what my heart contend.

—> After typing your message, click OPTIONS and then press SAVE AND SEND. Don’t press the OK button after your text because that is just like choosing the SEND button, not SAVE AND SEND. HAHA I hope that helps. :D

Does anyone know how to configure the MMS and GPRS? Please help me, I’m using Globe (Philippines). THANKS!!

  14. Very nice the way it look. But can this phone work in Africa?

  15. guys… i need help, the message tone for D880 sucks.. is there any way we could change the tones with mp3?

i also need help on the use of sim menu for the secondary sim…. only the primary sim menu can be used.Im using it for globe autoload and smart e-load.It really takes time to switch to another sim and reboot.

  16. I think this is really helpful. Samsung should think about Africa where must of the phone companies are weak or unefficient. The price of this good phone is a hardship for Adrican citizens.

  17. does any one know how to activate the answering machine?????
i bought the phone for this feature and i could not find it.

I seen one in a phone shop and thought I would see some reviews and specs. My wife would use it becasue she has a personal sim and a roaming sim from the PI for messages. Great idea!

This phone is great. Espeacially for those with two sim cards. Samsung always seem to be the trendsetters when it comes to mobile phones. The idea of two simcards is amazing. As a possible buyer i;d like to hope that its easy enough to manage both sims. And if the sim cards are on prepaid how would one set the phone to only work from the one sim card. Definatly a good and usful idea. I see many companies following this, as it would see very highly for those who have a work phone and a personal phone. Good money saver for those that already have two sims and one in each phone.

Can’t wait for Nokia to bring same out. I’m tired of moving around with two phones in hand.

hahaha i’ve never ever read such a dumb ass treath as “no blood” gave us. first off all, all the company’s love this phone as for them it’s perfect to keep business and privat phone calls seperate. second of all. i live at the border between belgium and the netherlands. i live in belgium and work in the netherlands… i don’t think i need to explain myself more… nice going dumb ass! (no blood)
