New figures have been released which estimate that almost 3 billion mobile coupons will be issued to mobile users around the world by the year 2011.

Big time analyst firm Juniper Research found that there would be just under $7 billion of discounts redeemed, which is quite significant.

Mobile coupons are continuing to gain in popularity as mobile users are finding them to be more of an important and beneficial tool.

There are a few issues in particular which are really making the push for these coupons, and this includes:

•Cost savings on campaigns

•An increase in customer retention for mobile operators

•An increase in ARPU

•Higher conversion rates

• Reduced fraud

One of the biggest concerns with the mobile coupons is that there is a hesitancy from retailers to adopt them, which is the main reason that there is now such a driving force coming from some to push these retailers into helping popularize these coupons.

Although there are some definite challenges for the sector which will have to be overcome, the Juniper Research firm is keeping an optimistic attitude and it will be interesting to see what happens with mobile coupons in the future, especially over the next couple of months.
