McDonald’s in Japan allows payment through phone, literally
If you’re too busy to cash your checks or just don’t want to carry loose change around, a new service that’s currently being tested in McDonald’s Japan is for you. I’m talking about a new feature in Japanese McDonald’s stores that lets Sony Felica-enabled phone owners order literally with their mobile phones.
This new payment option, called the Kasazu coupon, is a downloadable coupon that comes from a store’s point-of-sale onto the phone itself. Of course the phone in question would have to be mobile, for how else will you be able to bring a wired landline phone to the nearest McDonald’s?

All you have to do is to place the phone with the Kasazu coupon up to some sort of scanner to process the payment. This “e-coupon” will initially be tested in 175 stores before being introduced in all 3,800 Japanese McDonald’s outlets outlets.
This new payment option even allows for personalisation, keeping track of a customer’s purchase history and related stuff, so companies can start campaign targeting on you based on your preferences. I’d say score one more for convenience, but I don’t want to get ahead of myself – this thing is Japan-only for now.
