Telecom Italia and Vodafone Italy’s iPhone 3G will not be carrier- subsidized, pricing nearly tripled

Now is simply not the best time to be an eager Apple iPhone fan boy in Italy. You know why? Because the two carriers that will be launching the iPhone 3G on July 11th, Vodafone and Telecom Italia, will be selling an unsubsidized iPhone 3G at a rather expensive real world price.

Vodafone Italy’s iPhone 3G pricing plans were reported earlier this week, as it was discovered that the telco will be offering a so-called Book your iPhone service for customers who want to receive updates regarding the official details and specs of the coming iPhone 3G deal. Telecom Italia’s iPhone 3G pricing, meanwhile, is currently rumored to be at the same level as Vodafone’s, which is quite expensive to say the least.

It is reported that Vodafone’s iPhone 3G will be offered in subscription plans, such as Vodafone iPhone Easy, and will be priced 499 euros for the 8GB model and and 569 euros for the 16GB model. This rate is nearly triple of that which is offered in the US, and 5 times that of the deals in the UK (which are essentially offering the iPhone free).

Telecom Italia will also offer the iPhone 3G in subscription plans, and at the same price points for the different versions at that, although it is still not confirmed at the moment.

If all this holds true, then the iPhone 3G pricing in Italy will be on the opposite end of those that have been announced in the US and UK. And again, like I said in the beginning of this story, now is not the best time to be an iPhone hopeful in Italy. Don’t you agree?
