Sony Ericsson’s Paris and BeiBei go bye-bye

The “smartphone” factor was mysteriously missing from Sony Ericsson’s June 17th announcement of five new cell phones in the low to mid-end categories (with the exception of the C905 and its wonderful 8.1 megapixel camera), but given the leaked product pages and what not, we wouldn’t have been wrong to assume that Sony Ericsson might slip the BeiBei and Paris into its summer lineup.

Now, according to the Unofficial Sony Ericsson Blog, Sony Ericsson may have given the axe to these two phones that have had their fair share of hype from the constant leaks of images and videos over the past few weeks. While neither cell phone had much in the way of new features to speak of, they could have continued from where the P1i left off, now leaving a huge void in the smartphone domain that SE has no way of filling.

The USEB also reports that this may be due in part to a large amount of “criticism from reviewers and industry watchers” these two cell phones have been facing, pointing particularly to a scathing review from mobile-review.com on the G702. While the blame may hold some truth, we suspect Sony Ericsson might be waking up to the fact that these two devices aren’t just the right kind for the present market scenario and much more is needed to get on the top of the game.

But all may not be lost, as the G702 and the P10 might see an Asian release, even though the European market is out of the picture.

Aww. I was waiting for those phones. Here's to hoping they speed up the delivery of the Xperia then.

Yep, that's about the only big thing we might see from SE this year, but you never know! :)
