Nokia issues another OTA firmware update for Nokia N78, v12.046

The Nokia N78 has received yet another software update but this time it can only be obtained over-the-air. No, it won’t be available from your PC’s Nokia software updater.

The new Nokia N78 firmware update is version 12.046, and it supposedly fixes bass distortion, makes the naviwheel “more flexible” and optimizes GPS performance with overall UI speed.

Since the firmware update isn’t available on the Nokia software updater, users who want to update will have to go through the whole process directly from their phones.

To do so, go to Menu > Tools > Utilities > Device Manager. From here select “Check for updates” from the options menu, and follow the instructions. If you do this correctly you’ll be able to finish downloading the new firmware in a few minutes, either with GPRS/EDGE/3G or Wi-Fi. The download is only less than 1MB so that shouldn’t take long.

The firmware update is free of charge, and is available to anyone with a Nokia N78. It doesn’t look like there’s any compelling reason to update, though, so doing so is entirely up to you.
