Opera Software today announced the release of the beta version of Opera Mobile 9.5, eight years after launching Opera Mobile for the first time. This comes after a small delay announced two days ago due to final bug fixes.
The free download claims to be the best mobile browsing experience currently available for smartphones. This, the first beta, offers what’s becoming standard in mobile browsing today. Features such as pan and zooming of pages, easy and simple toolbar navigation, improved web standard support and, of course, more speed.

“Our fans have been eager for the release of Opera Mobile 9.5 since it first appeared at the Mobile World Congress this year,” said Jon von Tetzchner, Opera Software CEO. “We are now answering the call of the people and delivering what we proudly proclaim to be our best Opera Mobile browser to date. It is a totally new user experience.”
Similar to all beta releases, Opera Mobile 9.5 is currently battling a few bugs. The most notable for mobile users may be the inability to play Flash or any embedded video. The current list of known bugs is quite short, but I’m sure we’ll see this rise and fall over the next few weeks.
In regards to development, Opera Mobile is also pushing developers to jump on board and put out some associated applications through a program called Dragonfly. Most interesting for budding web designers such as myself is the CSS editing feature. Imagine working on your site design on your mobile. How big is your screen?
