Samsung Pixon M8800 touchscreen camera-phone now really official

Well, it took some time since premature reviews of Samsung Pixon M8800 handset has been posted to the Web in Russia, but Samsung finally came through with the official announcement of the phone.

Samsung M8800 Pixon is a full touchscreen handset with a very strong focus on it’s photo functionality.

Actually the ability to easily take, view and share photos is almost the only thing Samsung is talking about in it’s official PR. It’s almost as if Samsung is launching a new camera that just happens to have a phone functionality.

Which, actually, might be a good thing, since despite for all the talk about cameraphones replacing digital still cameras, I still have to see one that actually comes close to this. Samsung Pixon M8800 may be it, but I’ll have to see to believe it.

And today’s announcement finally settles the question about the official specs for Samsung Pixon M8800, which are:

It’s interesting to note that even though Samsung Pixon M8800 has a built-in GPS sensor (making photo Geotagging possible), it does not talk about it. So, I guess, even if the phone itself is capable, you won’t be having GPS navigation on Samsung M8800 anytime soon. Which sounds like a pretty stupid thing to do and I’d love to hear Samsung’s reasons for this.

Samsung Pixon M8800 price will be around 550 EUR when it starts selling in France in mid October. Other countries to follow soon too.
