Meebo for Android launched, heavy IM users rejoice
Meebo, the Web-based Instant Messaging service, is now available for Google’s Android platform, thanks to a Meebo for Android app.
The new app allows you to chat with your friends via any of the popular IM services, like Yahoo! Messenger, MSN Messenger, Google Talk, AIM and so on. You can login with a Meebo account or with an account on any of the other IM clients – just like when using Meebo online.
Meebo for Android provides real-time IM notifications, as alerts can be seen on the status bar even when the app runs in the background.
Of course, for the moment you can use Meebo for Android only on T-Mobile G1, since it’s the single Android-powered handset available. But worry not, there will soon be lots of other Android handsets: from Motorola, Samsung, LG and even the semi-obscure Australian company Kogan.
To get Meebo for Android just go to the Android market via your handset, search for “Meebo” and download the app.
