Garmin Nuvifone checks out the FCC

While Garmin is taking its time in releasing the much-awaited, GPS-assisted Nuvifone (that’s made by Asus), at least the FCC is getting busy with it.

Just published on the FCC’s web site are documents pertaining to the Garmin Nuvifone. The photo below can stand as proof, this Bluetooth and Wi-Fi-enabled, 3-megapixel camera equipped navigational device that’s also a phone is clear for use in the U.S. Provided you can manage to snag a retail unit of it in the first place, that is.

According to Engadget, the Garmin Nuvifone has been tested and approved with North America-friendly 1900 and 850MHz support. There’s still no word on an official release date yet, but you can expect it from the first quarter through the first half of 2009.
