Unnamed Palm smartphones delayed, Motorola Alexander cancelled
Compal Communications, an important Taiwanese ODM that works with Palm (among other companies), is apparently forced to delay shipments of two unnamed Palm smartphones.
Quoting the Chinese publication Commercial Times, DigiTimes says that Compal should have shipped the smartphones in mid-2009. But, because it’s waiting for some new Qualcomm chipsets, it will only ship them at the end of the year.
Hopefully, none of the smartphones in question here is the Palm Pre. They’re probably new, unannounced handsets, since previous reports said the Pre would be manufactured by Chi Mei and not by Compal.
So, until further info emerges, the Palm Pre should be on track for a release in the summer of 2009.

In other news not related to Palm, DigiTimes also reports that Motorola Alexander, which should’ve been manufactured by Compal, was cancelled by the American handset maker. Moreover, Motorola A3100 (which is made by Compal as well) will be produced in fewer units than initially planned.
