Cheap Samsung Smooth U350 available from Verizon

Approved by the FCC back in January, Samsung Smooth U350 is now available for purchase via Verizon Wireless, shortly after the carrier has also launched the Samsung Trance.

With a 2-yr contract agreement, the U350 can be yours for only $29.99. The price goes up to $99.99 with a 1-yr agreement, and to $199.99 if you only want the handset, with no contract.

As Verizon puts it, Samsung Smooth U350 “appeals to tweens, teens and parents alike”. Truth is, the U350 is a basic clamshell that doesn’t have too many advanced features – although it does come with GPS and VZ Navigator.

One advanced feature on this phone that was missed in the specs is its support of OTA updates, or FOTA (Firmware Over The Air). Normally updating a phone requires reflashing the firmware, often by using cables, a pc or mac and some sort of special software or something like iTunes. In the case of this phone or other devices supporting FOTA, updates for the user are easy - the mobile network operator pushes them to the device and the device updates itself. No fuss, no muss, no bother.
