Android Coming to AT&T in HTC Lancaster

Android lovers on AT&T, rejoice!

We are loving whoever sent Engadget all the official AT&T slides showing off the coolest new phones to come out in 2H 2009. The biggest news in the bunch, we believe, is the fact that AT&T is readying a new Android device: the HTC Lancaster.

Up until this point we knew AT&T had an interest in Android but was quite non-committal about making any promises — the company would only mention that it was looking strongly into the OS as a plausible option.

The HTC Lancaster, which is already being worked on in the labs, is scheduled for a August 3 release date. However the official correspondence claims that while the Google Mobile Services UI is currently being tested, AT&T has some bits and pieces of its own (read: AT&T Proprietary UI) it wants to include, which may delay the phone’s release.

Let’s dig in to details on the Lancaster with pics and specs.

No word on if WiFi will be included but considering that is a standard feature in all new AT&T smartphones, we wouldn’t be surprised if it’s added in later. Also, the HTC Fuze has a Autofocus camera, so why not the Lancaster?

AT&T also secured a 6-month exclusive agreement with HTC on this one, so it’ll be a while before it lands on any other carriers.

What are they leaving out? What do you think should be included in the Lancaster? And, how many of you are WAY interested in getting this when it comes out August-ish?
