Back in 2008, Nokia had plans to launch a touchscreen version of its old and discontinued N-Gage gaming phone. But since the Finnish company recently announced that it would kill the N-Gage service, it looks like a touchscreen N-Gage phone will never se the light of day.
However, even without N-Gage, Nokia can still launch a gaming handset, right? Well, meet the Nokia Ovi Orion, a concept phone that could, theoretically, be a great gaming phone.
The Nokia Ovi Orion includes design elements from Apple’s iPhone and Sony’s PSP, and comes with something extra: a hardware QWERTY keypad on the back, under a smallish (hidden) secondary display.
The folks over at Recombu designed the concept saying that “if the iPhone is Wii, then Ovi Orion would be Xbox and offer Xbox Live style features.”
The Nokia Ovi Orion should feature a 4.3-inch touchscreen display, “killer CPU and GPU”, gaming controls with tactile feedback, HSDPA, Wi-Fi and accelerometer.
Renders and a video of the Nokia Ovi Orion can be seen below:
Sure enough, Nokia will probably never make a phone like the Ovi Orion – but it would be really interesting if it would.
