Today, Nokia has finally announced its first dual SIM phones – the C2 and C1 – which will be launched in the second half of this year.
The Nokia C2 (C2-00) features dual standby capability and allows users to keep both SIM cards active, and thus they can receive calls and messages to both numbers while the handset is on. One SIM slot is situated underneath the battery, while the other one is hot-swappable (you can insert and remove the SIM card without turning off the phone).
The C2 also features Nokia Messaging, Ovi Life Tools, music player, 3.5mm headset jack, FM radio, VGA photo camera, and MicroSD card support (up to 32GB). As you can see in the photos below, the real C2 looks nothing like the rumored Nokia C2:
Nokia C2 will be available in late 2010 for €45 ($55).
The Nokia C1 (C1-00) is even cheaper than the C2: it will be out in the third quarter of the year (July, August or September) for only €30 ($39). The C1 allows users to switch between SIM cards “by simply holding down a key”. It features FM radio, 3.5mm headset jack, flashlight, and a quite impressive standby time of up to six weeks.
Too bad the phone itself is fugly:
Together with the new dual SIM handsets, Nokia has also announced the C1-01 and C1-02 (by the way, I find this new naming scheme kind of stupid).
The Nokia C1-01 is exactly like the C2, but it comes in different colors and it’s not dual-SIM.
The Nokia C1-02 is not dual-SIM, either, and it doesn’t have a camera.
Both the C1-01 and C1-02 will be available in the fourth quarter of the year. The C1-01 costs €39, while the C1-02 will be yours for €35.
Since the new phones are so cheap, Nokia will probably sell tons of them in emerging markets like Africa, India and East Europe.
