Samsung Galaxy i5500 with Android announced in Italy as Corby Smartphone
Although Google presented it as part of the Galaxy series, the Samsung i5500 has been officially announced in Italy as Samsung Corby Smartphone. Sure enough, this name will probably be used only in Italy – Samsung is well known for giving different names to the same phone if launched in different markets.
The i5500 is the first Corby handset to run Android (Android 2.1, more exactly), and also among the few to have a more serious design (most Corby phones look like toys).
The Corby i5500 features a 2.8 inch QVGA touchscreen display, 3G, Wi-Fi, AGPS, DLNA, Google Maps, 3.5mm headset jack, Bluetooth 2.1, 2MP camera, 100MB on-board memory, and a 1GB MicroSD card included in the box.
In Italy, the Samsung i5500 Corby Smartphone will be available starting mid-June. The handset is priced at €199 (about $238) and Italian customers will be able to get it via TIM and Wind.
