There has already been six releases of Android, why would release 7 be any different? I think we will se some improvements in Gingerbread, and then people immediately begin chanting; Just you wait for 3.5 Supercake!

We ran a story recently detailing the possible changes to Android in the new Gingerbread version. It was based on several strong leaks and detailed the end of custom UI's, minimum hardware specs and much more. These have now been cast into doubt as Dan Morrill, Open Source and Compatibility Tech Lead for Android, stating that ..

“I love it when people just make stuff up and report it as news.”

He links to the original unwiredview article and also says that, “You shouldn't believe everything you read” plus “I can make up crap too”. So, perhaps this isn't the end of the HTC Sense UI after all? We'll wait to see what the official specs bring.

I disagree about X10, I don't really care, whether I have 1.6 or 2.1 in my phone if it's convenient and I don't face any problems with apps. Yeah, Google made some UI improvements in 2.1, but SE provided their own UI which reduces the need for 2.1. By the way, their UX platform is not just Timescape, it's also such apps like dialer, phonebook, calendar, messsaging, settings and so on. I have less APIs in 2.1 and I don't have animated wallpapers. The latter is definitely not a critical loss and the first one also doesn't concern much if all the apps I've installed so far are running fine anyway.

SE is alive now. But I certainly will not call them well yet. They managed
to stem the slide with X10, but they srewed it up too. With the best
designed Android smartphone in 2010, old Android 1.6 OS, pretty, but useless
timescape UI and being the last to upgrade their flagship to Android 2.1,
when everyone else is moving to 2.2.

The same thing is now happening to Nokia. Which is started it's downhill
slide with crappy products, delayed launches, etc; last year.

In the end, it's your choice what to believe or not, of course,

Yeah, he often talks about the future, but if he says something wrong – oh, yes, sorry, got wrong information. He was often keen to share his insight on the flaws in SE phones, but real users didn't find anything. Really, I've read so much of this so I stopped paying attention to whatever he's saying. He might be right, might be wrong, but it doesn't really make any difference whether he has said something or not. So until Google says something on this matter, I won't deem this information true.

But, when talking about/leaking particular details, he's more often right
then wrong. And in this particular case, I think he's mostly right. Except
for version numbering/codenames – whether it's 3.0 or 2.5, or even if the
update is Gingerbread. But that's more my mistake, he was mainly talking
about “the next Android”for mid. October in podcast. And, looking at recent
history, nobody except Google knows this.

As for getting things wrong – everyone in this business gets some things
wrong. Sometimes due to incorrect info from the sources, sometimes because
plans within companies change, sometimes because you just made the wrong
conclusions. But it's the right/wrong ratio that counts, and Eldar's is
among the best in the industry
