Samsung Intensity II is headed to Verizon

An interesting phone just showed up via a Best Buy employee. This is the Samsung Intensity II, it will run on Verizon’s network and is due to be released very soon.

It will cost just $1 if you choose a new 2-year contract, or $249.99 if you go for the contract-less option.

This is the successor to the original Samsung Intensity, and the similarities between the two are striking.

The phone will have both an ordinary T9 numpad and a side-sliding full QWERTY keyboard, a 2 Megapixel camera and stereo Bluetooth.

At least the camera is an upgrade from the original Intensity’s 1.3 Megapixels.

More specs are unknown at this point, but it may look interesting for those who do a lot of texting and don’t want, need or afford a smartphone.

Should go well with teens, or at least with their parents.

I was in Best Buy yesterday and they have the Intensity 2 in stock. Looks good.

When is it going to appear on VZW's site? Does it require the data plan or is similar to Gen1 of this phone?

    Cool. What state you in?

Ok. So I went to my local Verizon store and they gave me a flyer that did say that this WILL NOT require the data plan and will still have the 1.3mp camera. They did not know the release date, however at my local Best Buy I was informed that it will be released sometime in mid August.

Briefly saw the spec sheet at VZW B&M store. Still no flash on camera but has a night mode, which was described to me as infrared assist. Only other real change is a “Social Beat” menu launch that puts all the SN stuff in the same place. Can accept a 32 GB card. May also be going to micro USB for charging, but unconfirmed. Available in 2 weeks according to VZW employee (if you trust them).
