New HTC Droid for Verizon leaked, should be launched with Froyo
Although the HTC Droid Incredible has been in the news lately thanks to an official update to Froyo, Verizon’s Droid brand is now mostly associated with Motorola, which recently launched the Droid X and the Droid 2, raising the number of Moto Droids to three.
But HTC isn’t sitting around doing nothing about that. The Taiwanese company already has a new high-end Android smartphone for Verizon.
Boy Genius has received some photos of the new (and currently unnamed) HTC smartphone; the person that sent them said the device “makes the Droid 2 look like a kids toy.”
The smartphone is about as big as Sprint’s HTC EVO 4G, thus it dwarfs the iPhone 4 (a couple of side by side photos are included below).
Feature-wise, the new HTC comes with a 4.3 inch touchscreen, HTC Sense, 3.5mm headset jack, 8MP photo camera with dual LED flash, and front-facing camera for video calls. Of course, there’s a lot more under that brushed aluminum case, but that’s all we know for now.
There’s no word on when Verizon and HTC plan to introduce this smartphone, but I’m pretty sure it will come out this year – maybe in November, although this doesn’t seem to be the rumored HTC Merge, because it has an 8MP camera, not a 10MP one. The handset will most likely run Android 2.2 Froyo, since it makes no sense for HTC to launch it with Android 2.1, and Gingerbread devices won’t be available too soon.
