It’s only been what, three decades since the Nokia N8 was announced? Ok, maybe not, but that’s what it feels like anyway. It looks like the flagship Nokia Symbian device for this year could launch on September 23rd in the UK via Nokia’s online store. Furthermore, they seem to have it exclusively for a full week before any other retailer and/or operator gets to sell it.
This information comes from a Nokia ad on Google, which says exactly that. You can’t find this ad anywhere right now, but it was apparently available (by mistake?) at some point and an enterprising chap pressed the magic Print Screen button.
And there you have what looks like an AdWords campaign in the making. To be honest, announcing general availability of the N8 during the upcoming Nokia World (September 14-15) would have made a lot more sense, PR-wise, than this, but hey, even September 23rd is good. At this point, any date that is before December 21st, 2012 seems good enough.
Play.com has it shipping on October 8th, which is two weeks after Nokia Online will be getting it, but perhaps that’s just a partner prioritization issue. Either way, I wonder how limited the stocks will be upon launch. Because if Nokia will pull another “limited quantities in select markets”, depending on where you live, you may not see this thing before November or December.
We’ll see. And we’ll keep you posted.
