Android 2.1 update for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 range delayed until October

Bad news for the owners of Sony Ericsson’s Xperia X10, X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro: the three smartphones won’t receive Android updates this quarter, as previously promised.

Sony Ericsson has posted an “update on updates” on one of its official blogs, saying that it now plans to roll-out updates for the Xperia X10 line starting the end of October, because “we have had to spend some additional time on the software to really makes sure we roll-out with the right quality and user experience.”

Mind you, this will not be an update to Android 2.2, but to Android 2.1. The current X10 models won’t get to see Froyo, ever (not officially, anyway).

The good news is that, apart from the new OS version, the updates will also bring some enhancements – including HD video recording and 5 homescreens (for the X10), and new backup and restore application, plus improved Bluetooth functionality (for the the X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro).
