7 inch Dell Android tablet coming in the next few weeks, other models next year?
Dell is really close to launching its second Android tablet – after the Dell Streak, currently available only in Europe and the US (and coming soon to Australia).
Unlike the Streak (pictured below), which features a 5 inch display, the new Dell tablet will have a 7 inch screen.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Dell Greater China President Amit Midha has confirmed that the company’s new tablet would be unveiled “within the next few weeks”.
Although it was showcased by Michael Dell last week, the 7 inch tablet is pretty much a mystery for now. However, it will likely run Android 2.2 Froyo, possibly having a higher resolution than the Streak (maybe 1024 x 600, like the Samsung Galaxy Tab and the RIM BlackBerry PlayBook – which are both 7 inch tablets).
Amit Midha went on to say that Dell also readies the introduction of “a whole slew” of new devices in the next 6-12 months, including 3 inch, 4 inch and 10 inch ones. Some will run Android, some “Windows operating system” (WP7?), and some may even be based on Google’s Chrome OS.
So it looks like Dell wants to cover all important areas of the smartphone and tablet markets – including the Apple iPad’s market. Good for them.
