Verizon will launch LTE in 38 cities and more than 60 airports by the end of the year

Verizon is busy investing in and developing its next-generation LTE network across the United States. LTE is a technology that will allow for faster data speeds than current generation 3G or WiMax networks, and also, perhaps even more important for some use-cases, significantly lower latencies.

Verizon’s LTE will initially see speeds ranging from 5 to 12 Mbps for download and between 2 and 5 Mbps for upload.

Verizon’s LTE network will be live, before this year’s end, in 38 metropolitan areas and more than 60 airports across the United States.

This coverage should reach 110 million Americans, and Verizon will naturally continue to extend its LTE network even further in 2011.

And according to a previously leaked Verizon roadmap, their aim is to cover 75% of the US with LTE by April 2012. This first step announced today clearly shows that they are on the right track to achieve that.
