Acer Iconia Tab A500 10″ Honeycomb Tablet Shown Off at CES

Wandering around the NVIDIA booth I was delighted to find a 10″ Acer tablet on display: the Iconia Tab A500. At the time I saw it, the NVIDIA rep told me this was just a “prototype” that may or may not end up going to market, and was very vague about it. And yes, it is an engineering prototype to be all technical, but it is certainly coming to market, and as a Tegra2 dual-core Honeycomb tablet with Verizon LTE to boot. It’s called the Acer Iconia Tab A500. While it is quite a mouthful, it’s also a handful (or two hands, since it’s a 10-incher).

At the booth, you wouldn’t be able to figure out that this truly is the same tablet destined to become a Honeycomb LTE superstar. It is currently running Android 2.2 and doesn’t have all the software finalized, but the hardware sure feels solid. It’s a beefy tablet, due to its metal casing, and it’s one that you definitely need two hands to use. So if you’re looking for true portability, the Iconia Tab is not for you.

As all Verizon LTE products, you won’t see the Iconia Tab hit market until around April, and no pricing was given though we have been told it will be less expensive than an iPad. We assume it will be competitive with the pricing of the Motorola Xoom.
