Apparently, AT&T is hard at work prepping to counter the hype and publicity stirred by the Verizon iPhone. As such, they’ve finally become serious about Android. In fact, they have a whole portfolio of high-end Android phones coming out throughout this year.
And the first one of those will be the Motorola Atrix 4G, first unveiled during CES last month. However, during that announcement, no details about the superphone’s pricing or availability were made public. Subsequently, we’ve heard many rumors about both. Either the Atrix 4G would cost just $149.99 with a two-year contract, or it would launch on March 1.
It turns out none of those allegations were true, if the latest report from WSJ is to be believed. They claim to know straight from AT&T that the Atrix 4G will go for $199.99 with a new two-year contract, just like any other high-end device.
You’ll also be able to buy the phone and the laptop dock, together, for $499.99. If you want to purchase the dock separately, that will also set you back $499.99.
The Motorola Atrix 4G will be in stores on March 6. Pre-orders will start on February 13.
Update: AT&T has just put out a press release concerning the Atrix 4G. And it basically confirms all of the above. The phone may ship sooner than March 6, but it will ship on March 6 at the latest. There’s also one caveat: the price for the phone+laptop dock package will be $499.99, but after a $100 mail-in rebate. AT&T will also be offering an Entertainment Access Kit, comprised of a Motorola HD Multimedia Dock, a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, and a remote control, all for $189.99.
