OliveSmart V-S300 brings Android 2.3 Gingerbread and HSPA+ support to India
India’s Olive Telecom has announced a new handset today, and this may just end up being the first smartphone powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread to officially make it into Indian stores. It’s called the OliveSmart V-S300, and it is, at the time of the announcement at least, India’s first HSPA+ smartphone.
The OliveSmart V-S300 is only 9.9 mm slim and has a 4.1-inch touchscreen, a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor under the hood, complete with Adreno 205 graphics. It supports HSPA+ (14.4 Mbps down), Wi-Fi, has a 5-megapixel camera with 720p HD video recording, and surround sound. The OliveSmart V-S300 has 2 GB of internal memory expandable via a microSD card slot, 512 MB of RAM, Bluetooth 2.1, DLNA certification, and a 1400 mAh battery.
The phone will come with Adobe Flash 10.1, Google Maps and Map-my-India, a preinstalled e-book reader, a live TV app, and a document viewer and editor.
An official price was not mentioned yet, but rumor has it that it will be somewhere in the neighborhood of Rs. 20,000 (that’s approximately $441 or EUR 323). The launch date isn’t clear either, but the OliveSmart is expected in stores across India very soon.
