Verizon may launch the HTC Thunderbolt only after releasing iPad 2

It looks like the HTC Thunderbolt won’t be launched today (March 8 ) after all, and neither on March 10 – and Apple’s iPad 2 might be to blame for this.

Droid-life has got hold of a photo which shows that Verizon intends to release the Thunderbolt sometime after the iPad 2 hits the shelves, thus not earlier than March 11.

Now, we can’t say for sure that this is how things are going to be. But it kind of makes sense for Verizon to introduce only one new important device in just one week. Or maybe not.

When finally released, the HTC Thunderbolt will be Verizon’s first LTE smartphone. It should cost $249 (or $299) on contract, or $699 without any agreement.

i heard from a verizon rep i know that its the TB is gonna be out friday.. a little odd for verizon to do since they usually release on thursdays, but i guess htc is really pushing verizon.

Why does their weekly shopper show up as if it’s supposed to be released this week?

  • wes

I say 4 all this crap of them not releasing the phone everyone should wait for the day after the phone is released. Just to remind Verizon who pays the bills…

  • George

i am holding off on the Thunderbolt and will go for the next htc phone (incredible 2?) just to make my point $299 is too much and they are getting more cocky than apple with the lack of info.

My guess is that Apple is now calling the shots.

I couldn’t. Wait any longer. My eris was screwing up bad so I switched to motorola from HTC and got the X today. Very happy. I’ll. Stick with 3g for another. Year. There’s probably gonna be glitches that need to be worked out with the network..the new 4g pricing tiers..and the “battery” life of the thunderbolt. Go X! Sorry htc.

“But it kind of makes sense for Verizon to introduce only one new important device in just one week, doesn’t it?”

No. No, it doesn’t. It doesn’t make sense at all. That’s the dumbest piece of ‘logic’ I’ve ever heard.

  • GGG

One is a phone. The other is a tablet/computer (non-phone). They’re 2 different products. It’s like saying, “It wouldn’t be smart for Best Buy to debut a new Sony HDTV and a new Toshiba laptop the same week.” There’s absolutely no (good) reason for this.

  • Shoshshe13

the thunderbolt is the incredible 2

  • wes

It does not make sense.. they are two totally different devices.

  • Nmante88

No… The thunderbolt has nothing to do with the incredible 2

  • Williambennett900

I agree 100%. I just got the x too. I had original droid and was tired of waiting. New phones always have glitches. Ask your local iphone customers lol. I can wait for 4g. The x is pretty damn fast and has a battery bigger than thunderbolt @ 1400 mah. That’s pretty small for a 4g phone.

iPAD 2 is not an important device… it just shows how stupid you can be twice.

The majority of people on verizon use PHONES!, not tablet computers! The only real difference with the new ipad is it’s slightly thinner, faster, and has a front facing camera for face time! Do they really think it’s going to be that popular? Yet at the same time, they are losing customers wanting their first 4g phone since so many are sick of the delays. If this is true, than it’s yet another stupid move from verizon.

Tell Verizon they can SUCK IT!!!! “Oh, we have to postpone so that it doesn’t interfere with the iPhone!!!” “Oh, now we have to postpone again to make room for the iPad 2!!!!” (and, the iPad isn’t even a phone.. how would that interfere, exactly?)

I’m sick to DEATH of Verizon treating the Apple products like it’s the Second Coming of Jesus. Or, like a rock star cutting in line, and making everyone else wait while Verizon seats them at their best table. Honestly, I don’t even care anymore. I don’t want the damn thing. I’m gonna pay $300 bucks after all this?? I think not. Hey, HTC, are you listening?? Because of Verizon, I’m not going to buy your product. I just don’t give a $H!t anymore!

Like many others I am a verzion customer and a bit of a geek. I started out drooling over the TB, but after all the delays, high price to purchase, and tiered data pricing VZW has successfully talked me out of the device. Congratulations you idiots, I couldn’t wait to give my money to you for the new toy until you decided to play game after game. I will pick up an X or maybe a DInk2 if it comes out in the next few weeks, but I’m not holding my breath again. The instant someone else can provide the same cell coverage in the US I am done with VZW for good.

Get the iPhone, you won’t be disappointed! You will see why apple is king once you own an iPhone. I just bought one a week ago, and let me tell you I am still in awe at the OS and retina display. Keep in mind, I was anti-apple for all theses years. I have been wIting for the 4.3in killer Tbolt for some time now. Well, I finally gave up. Glad I did though, because I rely don’t thing the Tbolt would beat the iPhone!
