ZTE showed the high-end Skate last month during Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Back then, the official stance was that the Skate would be released internationally sometime in May.
And for those of you in the UK who’d like to get the Skate, Pocket-lint has found out that the most likely launch time frame for the device in the UK would be in July, unfortunately. It certainly looks like ZTE has had to delay the launch a bit, even if they’re not acknowledging this directly.
As for whether the Skate will be sold under ZTE’s own brand or be rebranded bearing one of the operator’s names, it’s still unclear. However, the former may surprisingly be true, since apparently ZTE want to increase their brand’s awareness in the UK throughout this year. However, the device may still become part of any operator’s Pay Monthly lineup, since ZTE says it’s in active talks with all the main operators in the UK, as they’re all interested in the company’s Android offerings.
The ZTE Skate will be joined in the UK by the ZTE Light tablet at some point, although exact specs of the tablet are unknown as of yet, since there are many different versions of a ZTE tablet that could be sold in the UK.
So it looks like you’ll have to wait some more if you’re in the UK and were hoping to get yourself an affordable high-end Android-powered smartphone. To make your wait easier (or not), here’s a quick reminder of this device’s specs. It’s powered by an 800 MHz processor, it has a 4.3-inch capacitive touchscreen, a 5 MP camera, and it runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
