Wi-Fi-only 7″ Acer Iconia Tab A100 now on pre-order in the UK for £299.99, will ship on April 20
We’ve known for a while that the Acer Iconia Tab A100, a 7-inch, Nvidia Tegra 2-powered, dual-core Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet, was headed to the UK. However, last we heard, the launch was going to happen in May, and the price was supposed to be around £329. But today Amazon UK has started taking pre-orders for the tablet, and some things have changed.
First off, the price. Amazon will sell you an Iconia Tab A100 for just £299.99, VAT and shipping included. Here’s the caveat though: it appears to be a Wi-Fi-only version, so if you need to have a SIM card slot in there, you’ll have to do some more waiting. Even if Amazon’s page for this product doesn’t seem to have particularly reliable details on it (see the 512 KB of RAM listed or the 8GB HDD), judging by the price, it’s probably safe to assume that it is indeed a version sans 3G. Let’s also hope that Acer hasn’t just found a love for sticking many different brands on products, since the tablet is listed at Amazon as the Acer Aspire Iconia Tab A100. Sony Ericsson’s way (of using as many different brands as possible on a single product) and its market share woes should probably have been enough to deter other hardware manufacturers from trying the same thing.
If you pre-order an Iconia Tab from Amazon, they’ll ship it to you starting on April 20, which is quite a bit sooner than we expected.
And even without 3G, this represents one very good deal if your tablet needs aren’t focused only on the iPad-copycat 10-inch size. For the exact same price, Samsung will give you a Galaxy Tab, but that runs Android 2.2 Froyo, a phone-focused version of the OS, and its processor is single-core.
The 8 GB of internal memory can be easily expanded on the Iconia Tab via a memory card slot, there’s an HDMI slot, Bluetooth 3.0, and the screen has a resolution of 1024×600. To pre-order an Iconia Tab A100, head on over to Amazon now.
