Wi-Fi-only Motorola Xoom now available in Canada

After having already been released in the US, the Wi-Fi Motorola Xoom has made it up north, and it’s now available in Canada. As expected, the Wi-Fi-only version of the first ever tablet to run Android 3.0 Honeycomb will set you back no less than $599.99. You can already order it online from Best Buy and Future Shop, and it will start arriving in shops tomorrow, on April 8.

For those of you who pre-ordered the device from either of the aforementioned retailers, they will ship it to you tomorrow, so expect to have it in your hands at some point after that.

Aside from running the tablet-optimized version of Android, the Xoom proudly boasts a dual-core 1 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM, two cameras (5 MP rear and 2 MP front), a 10.1-inch capacitive touchscreen, gyroscope, barometer, e-compass, accelerometer, and adaptive lighting.

    I had a chance to play with a mobile version so I can’t wait to get my wifi. Concidering these are all sold out at most places states side (the wifi that is) arrive early to get yours on the 8th or risk going without.

    There seems to be a lots of misinformation out in the ether about the Xoom.

    I just purchased one for $589 US at Costco which some articles are saying is “more” than the base iPad2… er, yes in dollars only. However, the Xoom at $589 includes 32G of flash memory and 1G of RAM and a true HD widescreen display. So, anyway you balance the scales, Moto Xoom wins on hardware pricing and the display is very, very nice for eBook reading.

    As the owner of 2 iPad original devices, the Xoom blows these puppies away… my iPad is going to the kitchen to be used for recipes and Internet research while cooking… I know it’s a sad afterlife for what was #1 last year… but, that was then. My wife is already looking at the Xoom with wanton eyes, so I may be purchasing another. Maybe I’ll take the second iPad and toss it in the car to use at the coffee shop instead of my HP mini.

    Android 3.0.1 is the shipping OS on the Xoom and I installed Flash Player for Android: what a very nice browsing experience. No longer do I have a 30-60 second pregnant pause when going to some news sites as the site errors out on some Flash component feed… this really, really does make a difference.

    The extra 512MB of RAM (total of 1G) really helps with running lots of applications and swapping between them is a breeze with the Android 3.x task switcher… just too easy. Notification works flawlessly. G-Talk on this device is just a breeze.

    Look and fit of the hardware is excellent. OK, it is not as flashy as Apple’s iPad with the CNG aluminum unibody, etc. But it is rugged and well fitted and the device came from Costco with a FREE silicon sleve… I paid $25 for the one I have on the iPad. The B/G/N WiFi works flawlessly across my home router and my two access points.

    Sorry Apple, I have a new love in my life… VIVA Moto.
