We’ve heard that the HTC Desire S was headed to Vodafone UK, and then before the end of last month Big Red even started taking pre-orders for the smartphone, with a projected availability date of April 8 – today, that is. And, indeed, the HTC Desire S is now available at Vodafone. The strange thing is that this phone’s predecessor, the HTC Desire, has become available from Vodafone exactly one year ago today, on April 8, 2010. Now that’s some interesting timing on Vodafone’s part!
The Desire S however is no longer HTC’s Android flagship, like the Desire once was, and as such you can get it from Vodafone for free on 24-month contracts starting at £30 per month. The £30 per month plan gives you 600 minutes, unlimited texts, and 500 MB of data. For £35 per month, you get 900 minutes, unlimited texts, and 750 MB of data. And for no less than £40 per month, Vodafone will give you 1200 minutes, and the same unlimited texts and 750 MB you’d get on the £35 plan. Finally, spending £55 each month will give you 3000 minutes, 1 GB of data, and the unlimited texts you’ve come to expect by now.
The HTC Desire S has a 3.7-inch capacitive touchscreen, a 1 GHz single-core second generation Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 768 MB of RAM, 1.1 GB of ROM, a 5 MP rear camera with autofocus, LED flash, and 720p HD video recording, Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi, and 3G.
