Verizon’s Samsung Gem SCH-i100 available at BestBuy
Already available to US Cellular and Alltel customers, the Samsung Gem SCH-i100 can be now purchased by Verizon customers, too.
However, Verizon doesn’t sell the Gem directly – not for now at least. Instead, you can get the new Android phone via BestBuy, which offers it for only $29.99 with a new 2-yr contract agreement.
The Samsung Gem features a 3.2 inch WQVGA display, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, GPS, and a 3.2MP camera. There’s no word on when it will appear at Verizon’s website.
Before buying it, keep in mind that the Gem runs Android 2.1. And, knowing how hard it is for Samsung to upgrade even its high-end smartphones, I’m not sure you’ll see 2.2 Froyo on this one (not as an official upgrade anyway).
