In the mobile world, there are neat offers, nice price cuts, great deals… and then there are amazing, not-to-be-missed deals such as this one.
A mere six weeks after it has become available in the UK, the LG Optimus 2X, the first ever smartphone to have a dual-core processor, has seen a drastic price cut that takes it, price-wise, from the high-end, all the way down to the (upper) midrange. Well known online retailer Play.com now sells the Optimus 2X for an uncanny £329.99. That price includes VAT, as well as free shipping, and is for a SIM-free and unlocked device.
To put this into perspective, when it launched a few weeks ago, this smartphone was priced between £444 and £449, depending on retailer. So this is a substantial price drop, and is an offer that is hard to pass. Especially if you’ve been after a high-end, unlocked Android smartphone, yet didn’t pull the trigger yet because of the high prices… now’s the time to reconsider.
Keep in mind that we have no idea when this offer will end. So the Optimus 2X may be £329.99 for only a short while before the price goes back up. If so, you’ll probably wish you had bought one right now. To do just that, head on over to Play.com.
One of the things that may explain a price cut so severe is the fact that many Optimus 2X owners have experienced freezing issues and random reboots, so the ‘street cred’ of the device may be down ever so slightly. However, LG has fixed those issues, and an updated firmware version with the fixes included is now rolling out across Europe. So, worst case scenario – you’ll have to put up with those issues for a few days until the update reaches your device. Perhaps a worthy trade off, considering all the hardware oomph you’re getting for cheap.
The LG Optimus 2X has a 1 GHz dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, a 4-inch IPS capacitive touchscreen with Gorilla Glass, 8 GB of internal storage further expandable via microSD, 512 MB of RAM, an 8-megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash and full HD 1080p video recording, quad-band GSM, tri-band HSPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, HDMI out, and a 1500 mAh battery. The LG Optimus 2X runs Android 2.2 Froyo, and will be upgraded to Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
