Fujitsu will have a 7″ Android tablet soon
The tablet space (well, actually the Android tablet space) is surely looking like it’s going to heat up even more in the next few months, with more and more releases from more and more manufacturers, with specs that are better and better.
However, it’s not often you hear about an upcoming 7-inch tablet, as everyone seems to be focusing exclusively on 10-inch offerings, and even those who don’t sometimes end up delaying their 7-inch products (yes Acer, I’m looking at you). Well, someone else may just take Acer’s place in this space: Fujitsu.
Digitimes reports that Fujitsu is working on a 7-inch Android-powered tablet that is going to be released in the third quarter of this year (so sometime between the beginning of July and the end of September). The tablet will run “at least” Android 3.1 Honeycomb (presumably, if there’s a newer version coming between now and when the device launches, it will be used instead), and the projected price is somewhere between $347 and $694. Of course that will vary between territories, and as the information comes from Fujitsu Taiwan, the prices may only reflect what will happen there.
The tablet will be produced by yet-unnamed Taiwan-based ODMs, to keep the price down (although $694 doesn’t seem like a very low price, but we’ll see).
So here’s yet another company that’s looking to introduce an Android tablet. One after another, it sometimes seems like everyone and their dog wants to get into tablets. No, Android tablets. Expect to see dozens of these things on shelves by year’s end. That will make it a bit hard to choose presents this coming ‘holiday season’…
