UK: HTC ChaCha now available at Virgin Mobile, free on £30 per month, £209.99 on PAYG
After previously having become available at Vodafone and Three, the Facebook-centric HTC ChaCha Android-powered smartphone is now also for sale at Virgin Mobile, both with a contract as well as on Pay as you go.
Virgin Mobile will give you a ChaCha for free if you opt to sign a new two-year contract that’s at least £30.64 per month. For that amount of cash each month, you get 800 minutes, unlimited texts, and 1 GB of mobile Web. If you’re already a Virgin Media customer (having TV, broadband, or home phone service from them), then the cheapest contract to get the phone free on costs just £25.53.
There are, of course, many other plans to choose from. Some more expensive, that will get you more bundled stuff, where you still get the phone for free, and some cheaper plans that require you to pony up some upfront cash to get the smartphone. To see all the plans and pick the one that suits you best, go to Virgin Mobile here.
If you’d rather not sign a contract at all, you can also get the HTC ChaCha on Pay as you go for £209.99. That amount even includes £10 of credit added to your PAYG SIM. You’ll also get 300 free texts. If you’re interested, go to Virgin’s site here.
The HTC ChaCha has a 2.6-inch 480×320 capacitive touchscreen, a full physical QWERTY keyboard underneath that screen, an 800 MHz processor, a 5 MP autofocus camera with LED flash, 512 MB of ROM, 512 MB of RAM, microSD card support, HSPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, a 1250 mAh battery, and that all-important Facebook touch. The ChaCha runs Android Gingerbread.
