Three UK HTC Desire HD Android 2.3 Gingerbread update now rolling out
Good news if you are in the UK and your smartphone of choice is an HTC Desire HD bought from Three. The operator has announced via Twitter earlier today that the update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread for Desire HD smartphones it sold has started rolling out over-the-air.
Since this is an OTA update, there’s nothing special you need to do, and no computer is necessary to get the new Gingerbread bits onto your phone. The handset will just notify you when the update has become available for it, and you can choose to download and install. That’s basically it.
The usual common sense reminders apply, though. Make sure you back up your data before you update, and also make sure your device isn’t about to run out of power before doing so.
There’s no telling when exactly the update will reach your particular device, so if it hasn’t done so yet, fret not. It’s coming soon.
The update for unlocked and unbranded HTC Desire HD smartphones went out on May 4. Since then, the Desire HD units that Orange sold have also started receiving the update, and now it’s Three’s turn. Is it just me, or are operators slowly getting faster (see what I did there?) at pushing out these updates? Anyway, nice of them to do so, fast or not.
