AT&T officially acknowledges the existence of the Facebook-centric HTC Status (its ChaCha)
By Vlad Bobleanta on 29 Jun 11After having passed through the FCC, then getting its new AT&T-exclusive name leaked, the HTC Status (what we know in the rest of the world as the ChaCha) has finally been officially announced by AT&T and HTC… on Facebook. How fitting.
The Status is basically just a rebranded ChaCha, exactly as we were led to believe so far. Other than the different name and the different logo slapped on the front of it (AT&T’s, not HTC’s like on the ChaCha), this, for all intents and purposes, is the HTC ChaCha.
Therefore, it has a 2.6-inch 480×320 capacitive touchscreen, a full physical QWERTY keyboard underneath that screen, an 800 MHz processor, a 5 MP autofocus camera with LED flash, 512 MB of ROM, 512 MB of RAM, microSD card support, HSPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, a 1250 mAh battery, and that all-important Facebook touch. The HTC Status runs Android Gingerbread.
Unfortunately AT&T didn’t think it was important enough to also announce pricing and availability for this smartphone, so we’re left waiting. Fret not though, for the wait shouldn’t be long since the phone is now official. And even if AT&T manages to stay quiet on the info via official channels, we’ll probably have leaked pricing info and a release date very soon.
