UK: Orange Barcelona now available for £99 on PAYG, Orange Stockholm gets priced too

Orange UK seems clearly focused on launching as many own-brand devices as it possibly can in the near future, and one has to think that this strategy has at least something to do with the great success of the Orange San Francisco cheap smartphone launched last year.

Two of those many own-brand efforts are the Barcelona and the Stockholm, and we’ve heard that they would both be out soon. They’re both Android-powered smartphones, the Barcelona coming with a QWERTY + touchscreen combo in a candybar form factor, and the Stockholm is Orange’s very own version of the Vodafone Smart – a small, cheap ‘full touch’ type device.

Well, the Barcelona is now available to buy from Orange, and it’s cheaper than we’ve been led to believe. If you want to get it on Pay as you go, it will cost you just £99 with a mandatory £10 top-up required when you buy the phone. Coincidentally or not, that’s exactly the pricing that the San Francisco has seen when it was released.

The Barcelona is also available on Pay Monthly, and it’s free with plans starting at £20 per month. That cheapest option brings you 200 minutes, unlimited texts, and internet access. There are many other plans with which you could get the Barcelona though, the most expensive being £80 per month, so if you want to get a contract with the phone, make sure you go through all of the options before you pick one.

The Orange Barcelona has a 2.6-inch touchscreen, HSDPA, GPS, Wi-Fi, a 3.5 mm headset jack, HD voice support, an FM radio, and a 3.2 MP camera. If you’re interested in buying one, just head over to Orange and place your order.

The Orange Stockholm has also received an official price today, even if it still can’t be ordered. The diminutive Android smartphone will be offered for £79.99, and again a £10 top-up will be necessary when getting the phone. That makes it a bit more expensive than Vodafone’s Smart (priced at £60 on Pay as you go), although Orange’s version does come with a 3.2 MP camera as opposed to the Smart’s 2 MP.

Aside from the camera, the Stockholm has a 2.8-inch QVGA (240×320) capacitive touchscreen, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a 528 MHz processor, a 3.5 mm headset jack, microSD card support, an MP3 player, and an FM radio.

The Orange Stockholm is coming soon, and you can go to its product page at Orange and register your interest if you want. The operator will then let you know via email when it’s ready to sell you one.
