Sprint Motorola Photon 4G will be available on July 31 for $199.99
Last month Sprint officially announced its first 4G WiMax Android smartphone to come with a dual-core processor, the Motorola Photon 4G. Unlike other high-end Android handsets, this device wasn’t leaked very much or for very long before its introduction. The Photon 4G is clearly meant to be the non-3D star in Sprint’s current smartphone portfolio, perhaps taking the reigns from the HTC Evo 4G.
The two things missing from Sprint’s initial announcement were a release date and pricing information. Today Sprint has given us both.
The Motorola Photon 4G will become available on July 31 in Sprint stores and online. However, if you’re a Sprint Premier customer, you’ll be able to get one three days before everyone else, on July 28. Also on July 28, those who signed up to get information about the Photon 4G via email will receive the details about the handset’s launch.
The Motorola Photon 4G will cost $199.99 with a new two-year contract or for eligible upgrades. Not bad for a dual-core 4G phone, especially considering that Verizon likes to go well beyond the $200 threshold with its 4G devices (though, in fairness, Verizon’s network does seem to be the fastest around).
So, mark your calendars, people. In less than three weeks you’ll be able to get a brand spanking new Photon 4G from Sprint.
