Sony Ericsson announced the new Xperia Mini and Xperia Mini Pro (the successors to the Xperia X10 Mini and Xperia X10 Mini Pro) back in May. Since then, we’ve seen the Mini go up for pre-order in the UK in its unlocked and SIM-free form for £239.99.
And now both phones can be pre-ordered with contracts from all the major UK operators except Three, thanks to independent third-party retailer BuyMobilePhones.
The Xperia Mini can be yours for free if you choose a plan that costs at least £15 per month. For that exact amount, you can go with an Orange contract that includes 100 minutes, unlimited texts, and 250 MB of data each month. For £15.32 per month, T-Mobile offers 300 minutes, 300 texts, and ‘unlimited’ data (probably subject to T-Mobile’s 500 MB fair use policy). There are many other options to choose from, the most expensive being a £47 per month contract on O2, which would bring you 1200 minutes, unlimited texts, and 500 MB of data. If you’re interested in picking up an Xperia Mini make sure you head over to BuyMobilePhones and pick the plan that’s best suited for your particular communication needs.
The Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro can be had for free with contracts starting at £15.32 per month. For that amount, T-Mobile will give you 300 minutes and unlimited texts. The cheapest plan to come with data traffic included is a £20 per month from Orange, which has 200 minutes, unlimited texts, and 250 MB of data. Again, there are literally dozens of other options to pick from – the most expensive being a £45 per month contract on Orange, which gets you 900 minutes, unlimited texts, and 750 MB of data. To pre-order the Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro now, go to BuyMobilePhones here.
Unfortunately, BuyMobilePhones doesn’t currently list any information about when these two Android-powered smartphones will actually be released, so if you want to get either one on contract, it’s probably best right now to pre-order and then patiently wait for the delivery. When we find out how long that wait has to be, we’ll be sure to let you know of course.
Both the Xperia Mini and the Xperia Mini pro have a 3-inch HVGA (480×320) scratch-resistant capacitive touchscreen, a 1 GHz processor, 512 MB of RAM, a 5 MP autofocus camera with 720p HD video recording, a 2 GB microSD card preinstalled, a 3.5 mm headset jack, HSPA, Wi-Fi with DLNA, GPS, Bluetooth, and a 1200 mAh battery. Software-wise, both phones come with ‘Facebook inside Xperia’, Sony Ericsson’s Facebook integration throughout the UI, as well as an office suite preinstalled, and PlayNow and Track ID. They both run Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
What sets the two devices apart is the fact that the Xperia Mini Pro has a full physical side-sliding QWERTY keyboard, and as such it’s a tad bigger and heavier than its keyboard-less sibling.
