Back in March we first spotted two of HTC’s upcoming Windows Phone 7 devices (perhaps ones to ship with Windows Phone Mango out of the gate), the HTC Ignite and the HTC Prime. Up until today though, that initial leak wasn’t followed up by any other information.
Now though we have a confirmation of these devices’ existence, courtesy of Dutch mobile phone retailer The Phone House (which is a subsidiary of the well known Carphone Warehouse). The Phone House now lists the Ignite and Prime prominently on its Coming Soon page. Unfortunately though, the retailer doesn’t give us any hint as to the release date for either device. It’s just unknown at this point. Hopefully though, more information will come soon, especially since now a well known retailer is willing to pick these phones up.
According to information from the first leak, the HTC Prime (the handset with the side-sliding QWERTY keyboard) will have a 3.7-inch touchscreen, 512 MB of RAM, and a 5 MP camera with LED flash.
The HTC Ignite will also come with a 3.7-inch touchscreen with WVGA (800×480) resolution, 512 MB of RAM, and a 5 MP camera. It will also have an 800 MHz processor.
Let’s hope we see these smartphones in stores soon. Judging from their features, which are anything but high-end in this day and age, this should be one pair of affordable WP7 devices, perhaps the first of a new breed.
