Samsung Galaxy S Plus brings faster 1.4GHz CPU and Android 2.3.3 to the old flagship
By Staska on 11 Aug 11Samsung may be touting it’s newest and baddest flagship – Galaxy S2 as it’s main smartphone sales driver, but a year old Galaxy S is still selling very well too.
The main reason for brisk sales – Samsung has reduced Galaxy S prices by about 30% from what it was a year ago. It is now being offered as a highly capable mid–range Android smartphone, and is decimating the sales of current Nokia Symbian flagships, while competing well with the likes of HTC Incredible/Desire S.
Still, Samsung Galaxy S is a year old phone, in need of refresh to keep going. And it seems it will soon have one.
Techradar got their hands on a new Samsung Galaxy S Plus, which comes with a faster 1.4GHz single core CPU and bigger 1650 mAh battery, in the same old Galaxy S body. S Plus also runs on Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread out of the box.
This particular Samsung Galaxy S iteration seems to be a Vodafone exclusive for now, and should be free on a two year £30/mo plan. Which is the same official price as the Galaxy S currently offered by the carrier.
I don’t expect Samsung Galaxy S Plus to remain Vodafone exclusive for long.
And if faster and more durable version gets to retail channels and other carriers at the same price range as current Galaxy S, I can see another year of happy life and high sales for this Samsung smartphone.
