Alcatel One Touch 355 affordable QWERTY candybar featurephone on its way to T-Mobile UK
More than seven months after we first heard about its existence, the Alcatel One Touch 355 surfaces again. And while the first time it was apparently due to be released by Orange in the UK, today Alcatel has officially announced that the OT-355 is headed to T-Mobile.
So it’s still very much an Everything Everywhere affair. The OT-355 is anything but a smartphone, and as such is quite far off from the likes of the OT-990 which runs Android.
Not only is this not a smartphone, it’s a pretty low-end featurephone too. Its main selling point (aside from price) seems to be the full physical QWERTY keyboard, which will surely make those who are addicted to texting or emailing quite happy. That is, if they’ll be able to read anything on that tiny screen.
Anyway, the OT-355 has a VGA main camera, 2 MB of internal memory, a microSD card slot, an MP3 player, and FM radio. Just like with the Vodafone 555, there’s no 3G or Wi-Fi support here, so you’re stuck using GPRS. Unlike the 555, the OT-355 isn’t a Facebook-centric phone, even though it does let you access Facebook and Twitter on the go via built-in apps.
The price was announced as £19.99, and although Alcatel didn’t say it, that’s almost certainly a Pay as you go price. In light of this information, the OT-355 seems like a decent enough offering, and if the keyboard is good enough, may sell well. As of now, nothing is known about when exactly it will become available in T-Mobile stores.
