Nokia C3-01 Gold Edition gets unveiled as a budget gold-plated featurephone with 1 GHz processor
Nokia has announced and released a new phone today, the C3-01 Gold Edition, a budget gold-plated S40 featurephone. First off, let’s get something straight. This isn’t a (true) budget featurephone. There are many other featurephones a lot cheaper than this. However, it is a budget gold-plated featurephone. You’ll be hard pressed to find a cheaper gold-plated phone.
So if you like gold, but its recent price hikes have left you without the possibility of affording actual gold, or if you like expensive $10,000+ gold-plated phones but will never be able to afford one… this is for you. It’s also for you if you still haven’t heard anything about the smartphone revolution, the iPhone, Android, or all that stuff, and just want a status symbol to display to acquaintances (who also like gold – a lot).
The Nokia C3-01 Gold Edition is different from the ‘vanilla’ C3-01 Touch and Type in just two regards. The first one is that it’s plated with 18-carat gold, and the second would be that it got a brand new 1 GHz processor. Yes, a 1 GHz processor and gold plating on an affordable featurephone. Talk about strange (or useless?) additions.
Anyway, back to the phone. The C3-01 Gold Edition has quad-band GSM, HSDPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a 2.4-inch QVGA touchscreen, a 5 MP camera with flash, and microSD support. Software-wise, there’s Nokia Messaging for email and IM, and Nokia Communities for Facebook and Twitter, alongside the new Nokia S40 Browser and the Ovi Store, naturally.
The Nokia C3-01 Gold Edition is intended primarily for Eastern European and Middle Eastern markets, and it’s already available in some countries for about €220 before taxes and subsidies.
