HTC Wildfire S may be launched by Telstra on prepaid next month

The HTC Wildfire S is HTC’s current offering in the midrange smartphone segment. There are cheaper competitors, but most of them aren’t specced as well as the Wildfire S, so the tiny HTC device probably is selling quite well across the world.

And now it looks like it’s also headed to Telstra in Australia. The carrier will reportedly start selling the diminutive handset sometime next month, on prepaid plans. The information comes from Dick Smith Electronics, which is expecting the first stock of Wildfire S smartphones to arrive in its warehouses on September 5. Obviously, the Wildfire S should then go on sale for the public a short while later.

So if this turns out to be true, towards the middle of September you’ll be able to pick up a Wildfire S on Telstra prepaid plans. The price will be just $199, which is a lot cheaper than what was first asked for purchasing its predecessor, the Wildfire, when it launched ($349).

Of course, being sold by Telstra Prepaid means that the Wildfire S will be locked to Telstra. The unlock fee seems to be $100 during the first six months after you bought the phone, or $27.50 after that.
