First Look: Samsung Galaxy S II (Sprint)
At their product launch at the Samsung Experience here in New York City, we recently got to play with Samsung’s Galaxy S II.
Released on AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile here in the US, the thin, light smartphone with the giant screen has been flying off shelves from South Korea to Europe. Sprint’s version is a bit taller and thicker than its AT&T counterpart, but gains a bit of screen real estate in the process (4.52 inches to AT&T’s 4.3).
Sprint’s Galaxy S II features the same TouchWiz interface as AT&T’s model. It’s the case design that has rounder, smoother edges more in line with the first Galaxy S phone. We found the tiny speaker in the bottom back panel to be mostly disappointing.
The phone is a dual-mode 3G/4G device; unlike AT&T’s LTE network, Sprint’s WiMax network has coverage from coast to coast.
The Super AMOLED Plus screen isn’t the largest or best we’ve seen, but it certainly looked pretty. The 800×480 WVGA touchscreen was both bright and responsive.
