Samsung Galaxy Note and Tab 7.7 not coming to the US?
Announced yesterday as two of Samsung’s most interesting Android devices ever, the Galaxy Tab 7.7 and Galaxy Note have already gathered a considerable amount of attention from the press and the general public. So hearing that the South Korean company has “no plans” to launch them in the US is certainly something you didn’t expect.
And yet GottaBeMobile is reporting that a Samsung rep said exactly this at IFA 2011: they currently have no plans to sell the Galaxy Note and Tab 7.7 Stateside. But does this mean the two devices will never reached the US? No, not really. It’s not the first time when a company says it doesn’t plan to introduce a product in a certain country, and still do it eventually. Samsung itself said it had no plans to offer the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the US, and now the tablet can be bought there at various locations (including Verizon Wireless).
Philip Berne, who currently works for Samsung Telecommunications USA (and has previously worked with websites like SlashGear and PhoneScoop) explains this nicely on Google+:
If a PR rep tells you that a company has “no plans” to sell a device in the U.S., and you report that “Company XXX Will Not Be Selling Device XXX In the U.S.,” you certainly don’t understand the game, and you’re probably in the wrong field. No plans = no comment, not “never gonna happen.” I’m not saying it will happen, I’m just saying you can’t draw any conclusions from “no plans.”
Both the Galaxy Note and Galaxy Tab 7.7 (pictured above) should be out in Europe starting the next few months. We’ll let you know if we hear something about a launch in the US.
