Android Jelly Bean to come after Ice Cream Sandwich?
By now, everyone is probably familiar with the way Google is naming its new iterations of Android: it chooses dessert names (in alphabetical order). We have 1.5 Cupcake, 1.6 Donut, 2.0 / 2.1 Eclair, 2.2 Froyo, 2.3 Gingerbread, and 3.x Honeycomb.
Android Ice Cream Sandwich has been already announced (and should be released soon), but what’s next? Well, a name that starts with a “J”, of course.
How does Android Jelly Bean sound? Regardless if you like it or not, this may be the name of the new Android version that’s bound to be released after Ice Cream Sandwich. According to This is my next, which quotes “trusted” and “well-regarded” sources, the name choice “hasn’t been finalized” by Google yet, so we could still end up with something different.
What’s noteworthy is that the same sources indicate that Jelly Bean will come with some “game-changing” features that were initially planned for Ice Cream Sandwich – although the latter would also include “fairly major” changes (in design, functionality and architecture).
There is no word on when Android Jelly Bean should be released, but it certainly can’t happen this year – since Ice Cream Sandwich will only be out in October. “Sometime in Q1 2012” is probably a good guess on when to expect Google’s Jelly Bean.
