Verizon rolling out Windows Phone 7.5 Mango update for HTC Trophy today

Microsoft released the Windows Phone 7.5 Mango update to several select phones this morning including the HTC HD7, Samsung Focus, and the Dell Venue Pro. Other Windows Phone users will have to wait to receive a notification on their device telling them that their device is ready to update. You can also check online on Microsoft’s Where’s my Phone update page.

Verizon has just announced that they have started to roll out the Mango update for the HTC Trophy today. They have posted a page with instructions and some of the features of the update on their website. Once the update has arrived, you will need to install it with the Zune software on a Windows computer or  with the Windows Phone 7 connector on a Mac.

If you have already installed Mango on your device, let us know how the update process was and how you like it in the comments section below. We will keep you updated on the list of devices ready for a Mango update.

    Force your Mango Update:

If you have a Windows Phone you’ve likely been waiting patiently for the 7.5 Mango update. Some carriers have started
rolling out the update today but if you’re like me you’ve haven’t gotten it yet.
Thankfully some enterprising soul has discovered a glitch in the Zune software
that will let you get the update NOW! Full credit for this goes to WPCentral.

Steps to force a Mango update on phones for which Mango has
    started rolling out:

1.)  Connect your Windows Phone to a PC and launch the Zune
    software
2.)  Click on Phone > Settings > Update. Allow the
software to tell you whether an update is available. If so, skip this guide. If
not continue to the next step.
3.)  Time to force the update. Click another button (any of the options above
or below the word Update). Then click the Update button again, and this time
disconnect your computer from the internet after 1-2 seconds. Do this by pulling
out the Ethernet cable, disabling Wi-Fi, etc. If it says your phone is already
up to date, you didn’t disconnect quickly enough and need to try this step
    again.
4.)  Wait 30 seconds or so and Zune should display a notification that an
update is available. This is 7392, the first Mango pre-update.
5.)  Now reconnect to the internet and continue with the update process
    through the Zune software.
6.)  After 7392 is fully installed, you may receive a notification that
another update is available. If so, install it now. If not, proceed to the next
    step.
7.)  If the second update isn’t popping up on its own, repeat steps 3-5,
causing the 7403 update to appear.
8.)  Install 7403, brave reader. Speeding right along, isn’t it? ;)
9.)  Mango time! At this point, Zune should automatically start installing
the last update, 7720, aka Mango.  If it doesn’t happen automatically, force it
like we did in previous steps.
10.)  This last step is very important! Celebrate your phone’s new found Mango
status by purchasing a mango smoothie at your nearest Smoothie King, Jamba
Juice, Baskin Robbins, or similar establishment.

I can’t believe it! The above method actually worked. I got the first update after I plugged my phone in and loaded up Zune (coincidence?) but the second didn’t come for hours, so I tried his way, and voila.

    THANK YOU good sir.

Works very well. Just make sure to look at your phone concerning any messages. That made me stumble the first time when i didn’t acknowledge an update was available.

Wow, it actually worked! Thanks – I got tired of waiting.

  • Plbrandel

it worked… Who came up with that sequence and how did they think of it.
Now off to learning how to dictate a text message (new mango feature)

    Thanks for the tip!
I have a demo HTC Trophy to play with for 2 weeks and one week has already went by.
I was waiting to test the phone with Mango as I knew testing it pre-mango would be a waste in a sense.
Thanks to you I have a full week to use use it/abuse it.
    - Thanks!!
PS – I could not have had a more difficult time getting this thing connected to the Exchange server (stupid SSL certs)…

UMM… Okay so I got Mango and nothing changed on my phone…it’s exactly the same as before the update… I am so confused. I was looking at all the features Mango has and none of them are on my phone… Anyone else have this problem? Or did I just do something wrong?
