Ultra thin Pantech Hotshot announced by Verizon

Verizon Wireless has announced yet another new Pantech phone – not long after introducing the Pantech Breakout with Android, and the Jest 2 QWERTY handset. The new phone is called Pantech Hotshot, and is one of the thinnest feature phones on the market (0.35 inches – 8.9mm).

The Hotshot is far from being a high-end device. Its features include a 3.2 inch touchscreen display of unknown resolution (probably HVGA), three customizable homescreens, Opera Mini, VZ Navigator, V CAST Video, V CAST Tones, Bluetooth, 3.2MP camera, and a 2GB memory card pre-installed.

Verizon will sell the Pantech Hotshot starting October 6 for $99.99 on contract (after a $50 mail-in rebate). That’s a lot of money or a handset which stands out only for its thinness. For $99.99 you could buy the aforementioned Pantech Breakout – a smartphone with more advanced features (including a WVGA display and LTE support).

Of course you can buy the Pantech Breakout for the same price but the fine print says you have to but a data package too.  At least the hotshot doesn’t require a data plan if you only want to use it to place and receive calls, take pictures and videos and text/MMS.
